What is the Yellowfin repository database used for?

The Yellowfin repository database, sometimes referred to as the configuration database, is the place where all meta data is stored. No actual report data is stored. The types of things stored in the Yellowfin are:

  • Reports (not the data, just the report definition)
  • User accounts
  • Dashboards
  • Configuration options (e.g. appearance settings)
  • Events (used for YF auditing)

The Yellowfin database does need to match the application version, so if you were to install a new version of Yellowfin, and restored an existing Yellowfin DB backup, you need to ensure the version you install matches that version of the DB when it was backed up.

Note: Yellowfin does not support modifying the Yellowfin DB directly, without direct instructions from the support team.
