Oracle Java changes subscription offering

As of January 2019, Oracle will require business users to obtain a commercial (subscription) license to receive updates for Oracle JDK.

So how does this actually impact Yellowin? Well in essence, very little, if at all.

There is a sleuth of info online, though we've done our best to summarise the main points.

  • If you're using Oracle SE 8 or later, you will not recieve future updates unless you get a subscription
  • OpenJDK is a viable alternitive. We do have many clients using this from the get go.
  • From Java 11 forward, Oracle JDK and Open JDK will essentially be the same, with just some cosmetic/package differences
