Unable to create annotations

Hi there,

I'm trying to create an annotation on a report, but when I click OK, the page reloads and no annotations are visible, or listed in the 'annotations' tab. I've checked 'Chart display' and 'table display', but this makes no change.

I've attached my test annotation values.

Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Hi Jonas,

In your example, nothing is typed in the annotation body. If you leave that blank the annotation is not added, which I tested. However, when I added "test" to the body as well, it works:

Hey Mike,

I tried including text in the body but it still is not displaying any annotations?

Hi Jonas,

Thanks for your response. A couple things I'd just like to make sure of: do you have the Display's turned on under Annotation Settings?

c85a97cea2d936c048ebefb980e7e3b2

And, since you're setting a date range for your annotation, I just want to make sure you have the correct data type. When you filter by date range in a report, do the results filter correctly? Also, since I can't see the entire report, some part of the date range you've set is included in your report as well, correct?

Thanks,Mike

yup those two toggles are active.

So I had been looking at a report using weeks as opposed to dates as the time axis. Changing this to dates I now get something but still not what I expect.

I have picked a date range of 27/2/2018-7/3/2018 and this is the outcome in the table:

8cf42548db394663526bcce248f34b2b

and there is no indication of an annotation on the graph, even when I hover over these data points.

Thanks.

Hi Jonas,

I don't think I've linked this to you yet, but we have a Wiki entry on Report Annotations. You can take a look at that for some additional info as well. If you're not seeing the annotation yet, for example, as you can see in the Wiki entry, you are actually supposed to not be in draft mode when you set the annotations. It should already be saved. I would start there if this is the case. I wasn't seeing the annotation on the graph itself yesterday when I created the report, but when I saved it and subsequently came back to it today, I now see it.

Mike

Hey Mike,

I get the same behaviour when the report is saved. A range annotation only highlights one table cell, and nothing gets displayed on the graph. All annotation permissions are set (I am a sys admin).

Are you able to get graph highlighting?

Thanks,

Jonas

Hi Jonas,

I am able to see graph highlighting:

Unfortunately, without knowing your data more, it's hard to say what's happening here. Logs won't help either, as annotations are either applied via HTML or JavaScript, I believe. That being the case, out of curiousity, can you actually try to add an annotation on a different browser? Also, can you perhaps try adding annotations to other reports, so we can see whether this is report specific?

Thanks,

Mike

I get the same behaviour in Safari as in Chrome (running mac) unfortunately.

I'm creating a new report each time, and saving it, and then trying to annotate. I've tried both the raw field as well as a calculated date dimension on top. I've also tried both time series and discrete data. still nothing :'(

here's a snippet of the data I'm using, just a standard list of dates and values:

Hi Jonas,

I have one more thing I'm curious about here. Do you have filters setup in your reports? We have an existing annotation defect logged whereby once "filters are applied, the annotation is applied not considering both date and filter, instead only on date basis it has applied the annotation that too with wrong color," which makes it appear as if there's no annotation on the graph essentially.

Unfortunately, the only other thing I could think of if this is not the case here, is getting your environment setup here so I can try and replicate this.

What I'll need is: a full backup of your Yellowfin Configuration Database; and a SQL Script to generate your empty Data Warehouse Schema.

I look forward to your response.

Mike

Hi Jonas,

I'm going to go ahead and mark this one as Resolved, but if you have further questions or concerns on this, if you respond, it will re-open the case and put it back in my queue and I'll be happy to help.

Hi,

I am coming across the same issue where I try to add the annotations and then when clicking ok they are not displayed.

This is what it looks like

/398c28e1dbf9397a5f763c72de5497ca

When adding the annotations and selecting the fields by clicking ok it will simply load and then disappear.

Once the annotation has been added, is there a section where we could check existing annotations ?

Thanks,

In order to edit existing annotations, you need to find the annotation and edit (you do not see a list of added annotations).

To do this, you first need to ensure annotations have been enabled on the report :

e.g

/4d2073e90d672364836b9c43dd859b33

You can then find your annotation and edit/delete as needed:

/053e926432531ac2c08b895c072e11b6

If you have checked the above can you please check if this is specific to displaying on a chart, and/or table as Annotations will NOT display on auto-charts.

Note: I'll get this updated on the wiki is a limitation.

Please let me know how it all goes,

Thanks,

David

Hello! I would like to ask something about the visibility of the annotation. Is it possible for these annotations to be seen in the report, instead of only in the drill down, i.e. :

/dfcd94bd217befa1a57c7f8a8aa53b38

Or maybe even add this annotation to the dates above? Thanks in advance!

Hi Simona,

I hope all is well,

Mark here from the EMEA Support Team. You can apply Annotations to reports providing they have a date field. See below an example of this in place within a report:

More information can be found here. Let me know if this helps Simona.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for the quick reply and sorry for the delay answering.

Can you maybe send some instructions on how to define where exactly we want to see our annotation? The problem is that every time I create new annotation I can only see it in the drill down in the report on a specific date, and if I set a period instead of a date, I don't see the annotation at all. Maybe I'm missing something, but I cannot find the solution in the link you send me.

Thank you,Simona
