In dashboards, there is an option to show filters upon load.

I would love to see this on reports as well. If the report is set to not run automatically, and the filters are in the Left Side Nav, you need to click the filter button before you can begin. New users seem confused when they first run into this. Since you need to click "Go" before proceeding, it would be great to show users this option right away.

Below is a report option that already exists. Maybe just force the Nav filter to obey this?

Hi Jason,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm a little confused on this Idea. It seems you've already found what you need to to accomplish similar functionality as the dashboard 'Initial filter widget state' setting: set your Format > Filter Display settings and keep the 'Minimize Filter Section' toggled off, as you've shown here.

Choosing the Left Side Nav option puts the filtering options in the navigation toolbar. If you want the filter options to appear as soon as the report is loaded, you'd just choose one of the other Filter Display options instead - 'Left', 'Top' or 'Default'.

If the Left Side Nav were to load as if it were pre-clicked, it's essentially the same as choosing 'Left' in the first place, aside from the slight UI differences and that the Icon won't appear in the Left Side Nav. At this point, I'm not sure why not just choosing 'Left' wouldn't work here. Can you explain in more detail your use case for this?

Thanks,Mike

Mike,

I find using the Left Side Nav to be less distracting, and it also saves screen space when working on large reports. The report I'm working on right now has 10 filters, so it adds a bit of visual clutter if its permenantly showing. The Minimize Filter Selection option does not apply to the Left Side Nav, so I was hoping you could change that. Alternatively, you could add an initial filter state option to reports. The report I'm working on is not in a dashboard, so that dashboard functionality is not available.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for providing further detail. I can see how this could be a useful addition.

I've gone ahead and logged an enhancement request for this. Any potential updates regarding this Idea will be posted here.

Regards,

Mike
