Enable Drilldowns in Union Subqueries

This would be helpful, as it's unfortunate drilldowns get disabled when adding a subquery, especially when the master and subquery are drawn from the same view.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your message.

Are you able to clarify what you mean by this, using screenshots from the Reports that you are experiencing this on? I suspect that the behaviour you are experiencing is on the column that you are joining the columns on, where other columns should drill down and drill through correctly.

If this is the case, then this is a current limitation of Sub Queries, where this would essentially mean that a Report can be dynamically filtered. There is an existing Enhancement Request and post that I can add you to if this is the case.

Kind regards,

Simon

Hi Simon,

Below are screenshots of what I’m working with.

Each screenshot is from a separate report. Both reports do exactly the same thing and return the same results from the same view. The only difference is the one with the UNION returns a separate user-filterable subset of data from the view for comparison.

As you can see, drilldowns don’t work on the report with the UNION subquery. In fact, in the report builder under Analysis Style, “drilldown” isn’t available as an option.

Hopefully I haven’t missed anything in the setup. If this is indeed part of that known limitation with subqueries, yes, please add me to that enhancement request if I’m not already on it.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for raising this. I have gone ahead and confirmed that this is not possible, where the reason is that in a Union query, each of the fields is being used as a join in the subquery. Fundamentally this is the same reason that the field used in a join for an append subquery cannot be used in a Drill Down hierarchy, and this would be considered a Dynamic Filtering feature which we do not currently support.

I've added your scenario to the existing Developer task and bumped it up so that some eyes are on it.

As a workaround, the only thing I can think of is to use the Report as a View, however, you would have to make the Report into a long format as cross tabs are incompatible with this feature. I'm not sure if that would work in your use case.
