Ability to set Preferred Language in Bulk User Import

The Language Code in the current Bulk Import Process refers to one of the official Supported Languages and does not set the Preferred Language in the User Configuration settings.

You can change the preferred language setting in the 'person' table but the problem is that users can't be expected to change the values in the database using SQL queries. This means that they won’t be able to use the bulk import to create the users as they will still have to go and manually edit every single user to change their language to the appropriate value.

Hi Adil,

I hope you're doing well. Mike is no longer with Yellowfin so I'm looking after this one. We've had no progress on this one so far, but there capability to be able to set the preferred language for users via the API. Is that something that would work for you?

Kind regards,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for picking up the thread.

To confirm - you mean that there is a way to bulk update the language of users using the API?

Do you know if this works in a BMC Remedy instance (Smart Reporting) as well?

Our use case is that upon client organization onboarding, we are syncing accounts with the larger BMC Remedy product, and would like to carry over language settings in that sync from the existing Remedy accounts. If that is not possible outright, we could generate a list of users using En vs. Fr in the BMC Remedy product, and would then implement the API method you are referring to to bulk update users' language preferences.

Perhaps those additional details help in clarifying our need. Please let me know if you have any update or require further info.

Thanks,

Adil

Hi Adil,

For anything Remedy related, you'll need to contact BMC support, but the REST API does work with Yellowfin 8. With the update user admin call referenced here, you can set the language of a user, provided you know the user id. So it would be possible to programmatically get the list of users you want to manipulate and then update them to modify the language code for each one.

Let me know if you have any more questions on this topic.

Kind regards,

Chris
