Ability to restrict broadcast recipients based on email domain

Angelo Rigakis shared this idea 3 years ago
Not Planned

We are entering emails for broadcast recipients manually, though we want to restrict the emails that can be added based on email domain.

Could we have a way to do this?

We want to ensure users are not sending data outside of the company

Hi Angelo,

I've logged this idea on your behalf for further review, though at the same time wanted to see if there was possibly a very easy solution for this. Within YF, you have to set the email sender:

/b44008e7a592d46df1a8d22ce99cca6e

It should then be possible to adjust mail security to only send to trusted domains.

Does that sound like a feasible solution?

Thanks,

David

Hi David,

Thank you for this information.

If I was to add an email into the above box, wouldn't that just display the email address in the recipients email box for that broadcast email?

For example, if I added: angelo@angelo.com to that box, I would expect that all the broadcast recipients would see that the broadcast came from angelo@angelo.com.

Is this correct?

Hi Angelo, you're correct.

Setting the sender does then make them the email sender for broadcasts. Does change the feasibility of my suggestion?

Thanks,

David

Yes, this is a tricky thing.

We've given the role the ability to send broadcasts to users external to Yellowfin (YF) but we want to ensure that if a person puts in test@test.com, we want this to be stopped from sending to that particular user and instead only send to users with the angelo.com domain...as an example.

So here is my last suggestion... you can tell me if I'm crazy ;) 1. Create an email account to be used for report distribution, e.g. no-reply@angelo.com.

2. Set rules on the mail server to while-list valid domains they can send to

If that's not feasible I'll go ahead and raise a dev task for future review.

Thanks,David

Thank you! This is what our admins came up with as well yesterday.

Will this eventually be something that can be all done within the YF app, instead of modifying the email server?

Not at this point Angelo, however this can change based on user-needs. If anything changes, we will let you know.
