Secondary Reference/chart type on Combination Chart

This is what I am trying to do....

However, I cannot add a reference line to the secondary axis. I have tried other ways to work around this and cannot seem to get it to work.

Adding Combination chart on secondary axis:

This seems that it will only allow one chart (type) on the secondary axis...

I am at a loss with the lack of options with the Combination Charts. Is there any other option? Have I missed something?

Hi Zack,

Thanks for sending through your question.

Currently, Reference Lines are used on the Primary Vertical Axis of Charts, furthermore, Secondary Vertical Axes can only have one variable measured against them meaning that you would be unable to create a Constant Value to use on the Secondary Axis as a Reference Line.

Unfortunately, what you might need to figure out is a way to have both Reference lines, as well as one of your variables measurable against the Primary Vertical Axis. Otherwise you may have to reimagine the structure of the Chart.

In order to replicate the Chart that you've sent through, I would suggest looking into using Javascript Charts, which are much more flexible, albeit more complicated to create and maintain. I personally enjoy using the D3JS library and I know that Chart.js and Google Charts are more user friendly Javascript libraries.

I am also happy to raise what you've discovered as an Idea, in order to be considered as a candidate for an Enhancement Request. I would say that enabling full functionality of the Secondary Axis would be a viable Enhancement. Let me know if you would like to go down this path.

Kind regards,

Simon

Simon,

Yes, I would like to raise it as an enhancement request. I would like it to be accessible to others who cannot use Javascript Charts. I will take a look at the suggestion you made for me, but I have many on my team who could not do so.

Thanks,

Zack

Hi Zack,

I've gone ahead and created a public post, using the information that you have provided in this question. You can find the post here.

Let me know if you need further assistance with Javascript Charts, I would be happy to provide further guidance there.

The other thing I was going to ask was the purpose of the Chart that you are creating? There is functionality within Yellowfin to embed 3rd party applications into things like Yellowfin stories, so you don't always need to recreate content that you have already created. Let me know if this applies to you.

Kind regards,

Simon
