Query on SMB Encryption on Yellowfin Server.

Hello Team,

One customer has asked if enabling SMB Encryption on Yellowfin server will cause any issues?

Env Details-

Yellowfin- 8.0.4

Build- 20200121

Smart Reporting - 20.02

Hi Diwanshu,

I checked again with our security expert who said that you should be okay as file sharing will take place on the operating system.

We have no existing defects logged with using a UNC for the Save to Disk feature, so you are likely to be okay on that front.

However, please ensure your customer has the capability to roll back the change in case of a problem arising. We can then look into getting it fixed.

Hi Diwanshu,

Sincerest apologies for the delay in getting back to you, we've had a bit of a busy week!

Unfortunately I don't have a very determinate answer to give you, as our security expert is not entirely sure. While he believes that your end customer should mostly be fine, you could encounter an issue when using a UNC for the Save To Disk feature. In which case, I recommend asking your customer to try it and see if they do encounter a problem, if so, we can certainly help!

Hello Chris,

Thanks much for your response. It seems their will be no impact on yellowfin application as the encryption is applied on the file server and all the file sharing's will happen via OS and not directly.

Please re-confirm with security team once as Customer wants to be sure before performing any changes. If required, please refer the attached screen-shot for the same.

Also, is their any know issue when using a UNC for the Save To Disk feature?
