Option to Select Chart for Thumbnail or Re-order

Hi

When you create a report containing charts, the first chart created is the one that is displayed as the thumbnail once the report is saved. If a chart is selected after using the Smart Analysis feature, this is automatically displayed as the first chart. There is no facility to change the order of the charts or select the image you want as the thumbnail. As a workaround, you either have to create a chart, and then select the Smart Analysis results or create a chart and then create the Smart Analysis. Either way you are having to return to the Data tab to do this. Alternatively it means re-doing or deleting charts to get the thumbnail you want. Neither method is ideal as it involves rework.

Is there a way to select a particular chart as a thumbnail or change the order in which they are displayed in the Charts tab?

Thanks

Wendy

Hi Mark

If there is not currently a way to select a particular chart as a thumbnail, I would like this raised as an idea/change please. This would then get around the need to change the order in which charts are displayed in the Charts tab.

Thanks

Hi Mark

I have attached two images to demonstrate the change that is required.

  • Report Thumbnail - this shows the thumbnail that is displayed for a report. This has been automatically selected for the report as it is the first chart and may not be the image that you want associated with the report
  • Chart Thumbnails - shows the selection of charts available for the report. The first chart was created by the Smart Analysis function, whereas the third or fourth chart would be the chosen thumbnail.

Unless the first two charts are deleted and the Smart Analysis redone, the thumbnail image cannot be changed and will appear in the report list. A method of selecting the thumbnail to be shown to users in the report list is required.

Please let me know if you require any further information

Hi Wendy,

Thank you for clearing this up and providing further information. From what I can see you essentially want to have the choice of the different thumbnails for the different charts created, by defaults the thumbnail used for reports would be that of the one created first. Correct?

I have a possible options for this, although this would be part of the Idea we will be raising...

How about we have the option to be able to re-position the chart order within the Chart Editing section, this would then save the report with the first chart as the thumbnail. What's your views on this?

Hi Mark

I am happy with changing the order if it allows users to have the image of their choice as a thumbnail.

Hi Wendy,

Sounds good, I believe we have a good case here with enough information to raise an idea. I thinks we should propose the following:

  • We would like the option of being able to add our own Thumbnail to reports built. As it stands we are limited on what we can do - as you can see we only have the option to "Clear Thumbnail"b7b93a4b2fec0e2fcd13fb09c397c6da

How do you feel about this? This would then give you the option of being able to add any specific image to use as the thumbnail.

I look forward to your reply.

Hi Mark

I am happy with this approach as gives the user more control over what they see.
