How to change the view used by a report

Hi there,

I've heard that to change a report to use a different view, one needs to export the report without the associated view, and then import it again and select the new view you wish to use.

Is this still the most appropriate/feasible way in which to do this?

Hi William,

I hope all is well,

Yes you would be correct in thinking that this is still the appropriate/feasible way to switch views for reports. With this I would highly recommend a full backup of your Yellowfin Configuration Database. Let me know if you need any further assistance with this.

Hi Mark,

How do you export a report without the associated view? When I drag a report to the Export pane, it has 4 linked contents (Data Source, View, Content Folder, Sub Folder) and there is no option for removing any of these.

Thanks

Hi Greg,

I hope all is well,

Unfortunately this is not possible. However, when you import a report, you have the option to choose whether the dependencies (view and data source) come with it.

Import > add yfx file > Custom > Continue > drag report only

However.. doing this Yellowfin will warn you that the report is missing a view, sub folder etc.

Thanks Mark, for clearing this up.

I have seen a comment here about exporting a report without the associated view which sent me searching for that functionality.

Should a corrective comment be made in that other thread?

Hi Greg,

Apologies for that, from what I can see this was from our old Forum dated 11 September, 2012. To my knowledge we did have this option back in version 7.1 of which I believe we stopped this from version 7.2.

With this, I can however have this submitted as an Idea if that interests you? Let me know. I look forward to your reply.

Hi Mark

Sorry for the late response - I was working on another project on Friday.

Thanks for the reply. It makes much more sense in that light - I don't tend to expect functionality to be removed in updates, only added

Hi Greg,

Thank you for getting back to me. Would you like me to go ahead and raise an Idea to have this functionality back?

Sorry Mark, I swear I left a reply comment last week.

I don't feel it is necessary since the ability to set the view is available at import of a report. It was just the linked comment that had me confused as to how to import a report with a different view

Hello,

what if the view (complicated) is damaged in the source system and the export does not allow me to export?

Hi Rolf,

I hope all is well,

This would then need an investigation as to why the View is damaged and question the possibility of backup to restore or to repair the View in question. If one is not able to export because of a damaged view steps need to be actioned.

Are you experiencing said issue? If so, I would recommend creating a new ticket so that this can be private to you and separate to this Question so that YF (Team) can investigate.

Let me know your thoughts.

Regards,

Mark
