Google Maps API - Causing Mobile app to crash/Static API
Answered
Hi John -
I've posted your questions to the community. This is a good topic for others to look at as well. Thanks for your help on this- please feel free to update this request as needed.

Here is a summary of my issue:
•YF version 7.2 build 20160907
•Not able to export maps with a google maps background.
•Mobile app crashes when using report to display polygons on a google maps background.
•Using the latest version of the mobile app.
•I confirmed that the same report does not crash in the mobile app when the google maps background is removed.
Can we use the STATIC IMAGE API from Google maps with Yellowfin?

John –
Yes you’re on the right track. The challenge may be the size
of image required and the detail level you want for the final image. (from the
wiki)
1.
“The image should be of a high enough resolution so that you can
resize the final map without losing clarity. This means that the image
needs to be the size you wish to display your final map, or larger, so that
edges and backgrounds do not appear blurred when resized.”
So in your case the image file you use should contain both
counties and the MD parts and be high def. so the final display looks crisp.
You also need to meet the ‘color’ requirements in order to use them as a
specific ‘zone’. i.e. County A is color; #000100, County B is color;
#000200, County C is color; #000300 and so on.
You would add layers to your map to meet those specific
color/polygon requirements. (here’s a little more on the subject)

PS. I’d like to move this discussion out to the community
thread if you’re ok with that. Others may gain insight from your comments/needs
etc.

Hi Tyler,
My polygon locations will vary
across two counties in PA and one or two in MD. If I’m thinking right I
would need a raster that includes high resolution images for all of the
potential area. Am I on the right track?

Hi John,
I have tried to replicate the issues on Ver 7.2, Build: 20160907
1. Export the report with google map - Unable to replicate.
2. Open the report with google map on the Android tablet - Unable to replicate unfortunately.
Can you please provide me the temporary login to your Yellowfin, so that I can directly see how the report is setup?
Your Yellowfin URL.
1. Please send me all the log files with error message. Let me know when the issue has occurred (date and time).
2. Sample of polygon data.
3. Are you using ipad or Android?
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Regards,
Mahe

hi, I sent more details in an email.
I'm using the yellowfin app for IOS. same behavior on my phone and ipad.
Could you post an example of the export you created with a google map? (just curios how it looks) I was under the impression that this is an issue with google, not necessarily with YF.
thanks,
John

Hi John,
Sorry, earlier testing with exporting map was my mistake.
I have tested on iOS app, accessed your Yellowfin Instance,
1. Yes, you are correct, unable to export the Google maps, but was able to do with the GIS map.
2. Have accessed your google map report named "Application Jobs Imported" and the app did not crash, please see the screenshot below:
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Any ideas why my app would be crashing? It behaves the same on my phone and iPad. I have my timeout set to 40.

Hi John,
Couldn't find any error messages int he log file you sent me.
So, I would like you to 1. Fresh download of Java, check MD5 and reinstall.
2. Fresh download of Yellowfin App and reinstall.
After reinstalling, hopefully the issue will be resolved.
Let me know how did you go with it.

Hi John,
Hope you are doing well.
I am doing a followup on this case to see if your issue has resolved or not.
Did you get a chance to do a fresh install of Java and Yellowfin App?
Please let me know if you still have an issue with Yellowfin App or if you have any other questions.
