GIS Boundaries

Hi

I need to setup GIS Boundaries on my GIS Map in order to get my map to load correctly over the area the data is based on.

What is the logic or formula for determining what the Lat and Long minimum and maximums should be. I have determined that -100 and +100 for both basically shows the whole world and that -37.5 and +70 would show Africa nicely. Can you please explain in more detail on how to precisely determine this?

Kind Regards

Hi Johan,

I have attached a text file that contains country borders for all countries ("cow.txt").

When you find the country you are looking for, then the last 4 co-ordinates listed for that country represent the Max Latitude, Min Latitude, Max Longitude, Min Longitude (in that order).

For example, if you wanted the boundaries for the United States of America, the file shows the following:

then enter those 4 values into the appropriate fields in the GIS Borders section in Yellowfin as follows:

and then the map will show the following:

/PyapSvc8KGYeAAAAAElFTkSuQmCCAA==

There is plenty of information out there on the internet about Latitude and Longitude but basically, for the latitude the equator is 0 degrees, the north pole is 90 and the south pole is -90. For longitude, Greenwich U.K. is 0 degrees and the range is from -180 to the left and +180 to the right.

regards,

David
