Count a list of values

I have a list of all company applications and i would like to "total" it so i can represent that in a graph that just displays a number or different graphs so i can build a trend or do a offset against a different source that also shows applications.
How can i achief this? i tried transforming to a number but that faild.

Did you try using the Count function for the aggregation of the field?
Is this what you are after when you mention displaying a number?
