Yellowfin GUI Translation

Hello,

I have one YF 7.x instance and I can use Turkish on YF GUI (I'm not talking about Content translation) but as you can understand, it's quite old.

I installed another YF instance on docker container with v9.9 but I cannot find any option in Administration screen nor Configuration settings.

I found a javascript language file and I changed something on it and saved as text_tr.js but I don't know that how I can change GUI language to this file.

Is there any way to do it ?

Regards,

By using the configuration options below, you can enable the multilingual option and choose the preferred language for your profile. Attached screenshots for the reference.

Goto Main Menu > Administration > Configuration > Select Region tab (Globe Icon) > Language settings > Enable multi language option. > Add the preferred language.

Goto Profile option > Profile settings > Regional settings > Select time zone and preferred language and save.

Hello Ankit,

I copied text_en_US.js file outside the YF, translated some property values from English to Turkish, saved as text_tr.js, copied this file into appserver/webapps/ROOT/js/text/ path but nothing changed.

I selected Turkish as preferred language from menu that you shown in attachment. I restarted the container but no change.

The interesting thing; There is only Turkish in Preferred Language dropdown list.

This issue is quite important for us because we cannot upgrade YF at one of our customers because of this GUI Language problem.

Hi Yilmaz,

Thanks for your patience so far.

As per the available configuration in yellowfin the preferred languages cannot be configured at role level.

However, I will still verify it as you tried it with the js file. Request if you can please let us know about your current yellowfin version.

Have a great day ahead.

Hi Ankit,

We are trying this in v9.9

Actually, if we can set preferred language as globally, it is also ok.

Hello Yilmaz Korkmaz

Thank you for your patience.

We have an update from the product team on the task raised for the issue.

Adding additional language support to Yellowfin is predominately done by adding a new ApplicationResources.properties file to Yellowfin for the specified language. The ApplicationsResources.properties file covers about 98% of translations, there are some additional translations that need to go into the database, and these are for drop down menu options and statuses etc.

The existing ApplicationResources.properties files can be extracted from a Yellowfin installation. The files are stored in i4-core.jar (which lives in the Yellowfin/appserver/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/lib/ folder). You can unzip this file, and the language files will be in the com/hof/ folder after extraction.

ApplicationResources.properties is the main English translation file, and you will see others that are prepended with the language code of other languages:

da18b8fc6ae8c44d5fe4755c2cb77d82

The language files for languages other than English, can have translations for everything, or not. Any missing translations in the language file, will be fetched from the main English translation file. For example, the ApplicationResources_en_US.properties file, only has translations for a hand-full of text where the American spelling differs from UK/Australian English.

To support Turkish, you can create a ApplicationResources_tr.properties file (by copying the main English file - ApplicationResources.properties) and translate the text in that file.

To use this file, you can either inject the file into the i4-core.jar file (which you might do for releasing to your clients) or place the file in Yellowfin/appserver/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/classes/com/hof. The translations will not work until Yellowfin has been restarted.

When the user's browser is set to Turkish, the ApplicationResources_tr.properties file should be used for translating the Yellowfin UI.

Hope it helps! Feel free to let us know if you have any questions or concerns; we would be more than happy to assist you.

Sincerely,

Ankit Asati
