Top rank on large amount of data

Hi!

we are trying to return top 100 row using advance function of Top Rank N.

the issue is that we are reaching the row limit since the calculation is done in the tool level

(as for all advance functions) and not in the DB, and so the data is truncated and show a wrong result set.

this is an big issue a specially when working with Top\ Bottom functions.

Is there any plan to allow this function to run in the DB? or some kind of other solution planned?

Thanks,

Tal

Hi Tal,

In this case I would suggest limiting the result set prior to the report builder, using a view from stored procedure, freehand SQL view, or a freehand SQL report.

Unfortunately, with the way that a report's SQL is generated, there is no way to smartly do this within the normal drag and drop builder, so alternatives such as that mentioned above are required. Including this feature would be nice for the occasional use case such as this, but the work required to implement this in the back end is not proportional to the ease at which a work around can be devised.

Let me know if this makes sense, or if you would like me to elaborate on any of the work around mentioned above!

Nathan

Hello,

I am not sure I understand the workarounds. My goal is to create a report such as Top 50 customers by spend. Using Yellowfin the answer changes depending upon what value I put in “

Max Rows Returned”.

The idea and query are very simple: Select top 50 Customers, sum(spend) From View, Group by Customers, order by Sum(spend) desc

Is there a way to get an accurate answer?Hello

This question has been reassigned to myself as Nathan is no longer within the support team.

Though i have reached out to him, as he is now a Yellowfin Consultant, for clarification. I will update you once i receive a response from him :)
