Report with Conditional formatting takes long time to export to Xls format

Hi Team,

I have a report with conditional formatting applied for 6 fields. The report fetches about 6k rows and running report takes few seconds only. Whereas exporting it to xls takes more than 10 minutes.

If I remove the conditional formatting from the report, it takes only 20 secs to export. So I came to conclusion that conditional formatting is causing slowness while exporting to excel.

Is this expected behavior ? How can I improve the performance when report has conditional formatting applied?

Regards,

Bharath

Hello Bharath,

Thanks for reaching out with this issue.

The reason for the slowness with conditional formatting would be that Yellowfin has to write the formatting of each row into a cell, or multiple cells, into a .xlsx format that is readable by Excel.

Without increasing the amount of JVM available to the server I am unsure of methods usable to increase export performance with conditional formatting.

Please let me know if this information helps.

Thanks,

Jared

Hi Jared,

Thank you for the response. So is this expected behavior when the report has conditional formatting?

We already have jvm set to 8 GB. What else can I do to improve report export performance?

Hello Bharath,

Thanks for the information.

In order to be sure if your system is running into a wall when attempting to export one of these reports we can recreate the issue and use our info threads runner while we do so. This tool will tell us everything Yellowfin is running in a given amount of time.

In order to get appropriate information we need to start the export and the tool at the same time. Once this is done please supply me with the files generated by said tool. Once I have these I will be able to investigate this further. This article goes over what the tool is and how to use it in more depth.

Please let me know if you have any questions in the meantime.

Thanks.

Hi Barath,

Hope you're having a good week.

Just wanted to check-in and see how it's all going. Was there anything you were needing from me to help get this resolved?
