Limiting Amount of Broadcasts That Can Be Sent At Any One Time?

Rafael Ramos shared this question 26 days ago
Completed

Hello,
We have a customer which seems to send a number of report broadcasts to occur at the same time during various parts of the day.
This seems to be placing undue load on system memory as some of their reports are poorly written or do not have query filters applied.

Is there a way to limit and or provide a warning when x amount of report broadcasts have been set?

Thank you in advance.
Rafael..

Hello Rafael Ramos

With regard to your inquiry, I would like to inform you that Yellowfin doesn't have a built-in "warn when X broadcasts are scheduled at the same time. However, I would recommend considering the following options to manage the load generated by multiple report broadcasts:

1. Set the minimum schedule interval- Navigate to Admin Console → Configuration → SystemMinimum Schedule Interval

https://yellowfin.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/yfcurrent/pages/2204735/Configuration

2. Task Scheduler Limits- Navigate to: Administration → Admin Console → Schedule Management → Task Scheduler Limits

https://yellowfin.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/yfcurrent/pages/2201323/Schedule+Management#Task-Scheduler-Management

3. BROADCASTSENDINLINE — Conserve Memory During Broadcast

This configuration sends each recipient's report as soon as it's generated, rather than holding all in memory until all are complete:

https://yellowfin.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/yfcurrent/pages/2195718/Advanced+Configurations?atl_f=ROVOCHAT

4. Broadcast Reports Individually: Instead of bulk sending, configure Yellowfin to send each broadcast as soon as the email content is generated. This conserves memory by not holding all email content in memory at once.

5. Optimize Reports: Encourage the customer to optimize their reports by applying query filters and improving report design to reduce system load.

6. If multiple recipients have access to the same data (no access filters differentiating them), this sends a single email with CC rather than generating the report N times.

Please let me know if any of these approaches meet your requirements. If necessary, I can also submit an enhancement request for your proposed requirements.

Thank you,
