Workaround to allow multiple field color separation in charts

Hello!

I am working on a chart to illustrate multiple metrics across different data sources.

I am running into an issue where I can only have color separation by either metric or data source. Is there a way to get both? I want to show a metric two ways (regular and accumulative total).

I tried doing this with a combination chart, but it still only allows one level of color separation

The attachments show what I am talking about. yf chart is from yellowfin and bi chart is what I am looking for. That was created in powerbi and is exactly what I am looking for.

Thanks!

Hello Justin,

Thank you for your patience. We've investigated the requirement to display multiple metrics (e.g., monthly revenue and cumulative total) split by data source on a single combination chart, with each series having a distinct color.

Yellowfin's combination (Vertical Overlay) chart currently supports only one Color dimension at a time. This means:

  • When multiple metrics are placed on the vertical axis, the Color field is automatically disabled.
  • You can color-separate by data source OR display multiple metrics but not both simultaneously on the same chart.

If you have any further questions or need assistance, please reach out to us. We're here to help.

Thanks,

Unfortunately there is not a date formatted field in this dataset. The data is summarized by month, which is just an INT field

Hello Justin,

Thank you for your patience, I checked with our development team.

The Invoiced Date is a Date field, not an Integer field, so it can be grouped and categorized using different date units. For example, if it is currently displayed by Month, it can be changed to Year, Quarter, or other available date groupings depending on your reporting needs.

Alternatively, if you would like to filter records within a specific date range, a date slider can also be used. Please note that the date slider is available within the design/configuration window and can be used to narrow down the date selection more precisely.

Based on our understanding, these options should address the requirement. However, please let us know if this differs from what you were requesting, and we will be happy to review it further.

Please revert back if you have any further queries happy to assist.

Chegudi,

Apologies, I was OOO

I have not tried to implement this solution yet, but I do believe it would work after I add a date formatted field to use

I can reach back out if that isn't the case

Chegudi,

Unfortunately this will not work, as I need to see both revenue and accumulative revenue across different data sources

I believe I have a workaround I can use, but would like the multiple color separation to be added as an enhancement request

For an example, reference the bi chart.png file I added with the initial ticket.

That shows both revenue and cumulative revenue values across different sources (Current, Prior, Forecast, Stretch)
