Hey,

is it possible, to load data in a report. only if I use one of many filter?

I know, it's possible to use the filter requirement: "Mandatory forces the user to provide a value for this filter in order to run the report." but it's not possible to use three filter and the report is only loading, if someone uses one filter and can choose which one of the three.

Maby this is more like an idea.

Hello Janus,

Thank you for raising this requirement. We've looked into it and here's what we found:

Current Behavior:
Yellowfin currently supports two filter requirement options:

  • Mandatory — forces the user to provide a value for that specific filter before the report runs.
  • Allow Omit — lets the user skip the filter entirely.

The Limitation:
There is no native option to define a group of filters where the report only runs if the user fills in at least one filter from the group, while leaving the choice of which filter to the user.

For example, if a report has three filters (e.g., Region, Customer, Product), there is currently no way to enforce "fill in at least one of these three" without making all three mandatory individually.

Existing Enhancement Request:
This has been recognized as a valid enhancement. There is an existing feature request tracked under Mandatory Filter Group, which proposes exactly this functionality. The request is currently open and under assessment by the Yellowfin product team.

Workaround (if applicable):
In the interim, possible workarounds include:

  • Making one primary filter mandatory and the others optional.
  • Using a JavaScript-based custom validation on the report page (requires technical effort).
  • Adding user guidance/instructions on the report to indicate that at least one filter should be selected.

Next Steps:
We recommend adding your vote/comment to the existing enhancement request to help prioritize this feature. We can facilitate this on your behalf if needed.

Please let us know if you have any questions or would like to discuss alternative approaches.

Thanks & Regards,

Priya.

Hey Priya,

thank you for these information. I going to vote/comment on the Ticket Mandatory Filter Group, but this is a ticket that is an idea for the last 7 years, probably it's not going to get an enhancement very soon.

You can close the ticket,
