Father filter depends on child content, which is the wrong way around
Hello,
unfortunately, another error in a basic function - parent child filter. Fortunately, it's easy to reproduce and surely just as easy and quick to fix. A hotfix would be great so that filters can be used properly.
With a parent-child filter combination, the child content determines what is displayed in the parent. This is backwards and does not help the report user at all.
Steps to reproduce - Data
Column A Column B A1 B1 A2 (null, no content) A3 B3
Steps to reproduce
- create a filter for column A with a list of values (not OrgRef)
- create a filter for column B with a list of values (not OrgRef)
Look at the filter values for both filters: you will see all the values from the table, which is OK.
3. configure filter A as the parent of filter B with dependent values.
Suddenly, filter A only contains two values = A1 and A3. A2 is no longer offered as a selection option. This is incorrect.
I specifically mention “not OrgRef” above because it works as it should with an OrgRef for filter A.

Hello Stefan Hall,
Greetings of the day
Thank you for your patience. I have received an update from the product team they said that this feels like expected functionality. As the filters are dependent, the values with blank filter children are not shown. However, this issue has come up before, and there is a hidden configuration option to allow blank child values.
The hidden configuration option is: ALLOWNULLCACHEFILTERS

Hi Siddartha,,
I'm still on vacation until Monday and will test it then. However, parameters like this should not be hidden.
The behavior is not consistent, because with an OrgRef code as the parent, the null values are displayed. Parent-child should not be an inner join. That only makes sense with static values.
