How to link different filters of the same type in a report?

Completed

Hi,

I need to link two different filters ("Company name" and "Industry Sector"), so that

1) whenever the user selects a specific company

2) then, the industry sector filter automatically selects the industry that customer is in

When I do this, the query returns no results. Can I get help on this?

For additional context:

This is part of a report i am creating that compares the data of a single customer, with the data of all customers within the same industry! I wanted to implement this:

Main query:

1) Set Company Name filter to User Prompt

2) Link Industry filter to Company name

Append a query where all companies are preselected, then

3) Link Industry filter of the appended query to Industry filter of the Main query

Will this solution work? Could you please suggest any other solutions that might address the problem better?

Thanks!

Hello Ivanche,

To achieve the desired filter linking between "Company name" and "Industry Sector," you need to ensure that the filters are correctly set up and linked. Here are some steps and considerations based on the context provided:

  1. Ensure Filters are Added: Before enabling filter linking, make sure you have added both "Company name" and "Industry Sector" filters to your filter panel.
  2. Automatic Linking: If you want the linking to be automatic, ensure that:Both filters are from the same view. Both filters are the same ‘field’ (e.g., Company Name to Company Name). Both filters are not from the same report widget.
  3. Manual Linking: If automatic linking does not work, you can manually link the filters:Use the "Link Filters" button on the filter panel.Ensure that the parent and child filters are of the same type (e.g., numeric) and have the same filter operator (e.g., In List).
  4. Check for Existing Links: Ensure that the child filter (Industry Sector) isn't already linked to another filter, as this might cause conflicts.

For more detailed information on filter linking, you can refer to the official documentation here: Dashboard Filter Linking.

Let me know if it helps.
