Hi Support,

Can you provide a detailed explanation on how the figures are calculated in a Moving Average forecasting? I found this on the wiki page, but I don't think this would be enough for our client.

We have this report configured with Trending Variable set to Auto. Our client is really keen to know how Yellowfin exactly comes up with the data on their report.

Below is a screenshot of their report with dummy data.

Hi Jasper,

Thanks for reaching out.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any other documentation related to moving average in yellowfin. Moving average is basically averaging the data points based on the period (please refer to article1 and article2)

I believe, the moving average period if not selected manually(left in auto), then it would select a number depending on the data set. For example: I have 12 periods(2012-2023) in my data, when I left it in auto it spanned for 4years.

We can manually change the periods as outlined in the wiki article to a desired number. I hope that helps.

Deepak
