Yellowfin date range question

Hello,

In any of the versions of YF, is it possible to have a date range user prompt filter that won’t allow you to choose a date earlier than a pre-set date?

For example, I want to give my users the ability to choose a date range for a filter, but I don’t want them to be able to choose a date BEFORE July 4th 2019.  They can see the earlier dates but the cannot click on them.

Is this possible?

Hi Angelo,

Apologies, this is a question better answered by consultants, but I'll give it a go. If you don't want users to be able to filter beyond a certain date, you could make a calculated filter- here I filtered out athletes whose DOB was 1980 or later -

The user could filter beyond the filter dates, but only receive results for the defined period - 55a807a0e0676e61c6762333578b2d89

But I fear I'm not following you on this one, you're talking about content CREATION in this case?

In which case, you'd want to set a condition in the view the content is being created from -

Maybe this suits your needs in this case? If not please provide some more details and perhaps a use case so I can better understand the requirement here?

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Eric,

Thank you for the help.

I’ll use your Date of Birth example, as my example….

Say, I have the date of birth field, and I add it to the filters.  Now I want to allow the user to pick the date range for DOB, but I don’t want the user to be able to pick a date AFTER 1980-01-01…they could see 1980-01-02 (Jan 02) but they are unable to choose it.

I know that I could also add an additional DOB field to the filters and hard code it to only pull back data earlier than 1980-01-01, so that no matter if the client picks something after 1980-01-01, they won’t get the data.

Hi Angelo,

Thanks for the clarification. so it sounds like you'd like the filter picker to be able to have a different defined range than the actual filter data, is that a correct interpretation?

I'm not sure if this is possible with our current offering, but I can check with a content creation specialist to see if they have any ideas. I'd imagine the use case would be something along the lines of keeping the filter query limited on a large dataset, or something similar? This may need to be approached by developers as a software enhancement.

Hi Angelo,

Just wanted to check in to make sure I had your desired behavior correct in this case here?

Thanks,

Eric

Yes, your example is correct.

A report developer would define the min/max date range and save the report.  When the user goes to choose their dates, they would see all dates, but only the range between the min/max would be allowed to be chosen.

Hi Angelo,

I'm creating an enhancement request and was hoping to get a use case scenario to help provide the reasoning behind the functionality?

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Angelo,

I've created a request to developers to look into this possible software enhancement. Updates to the developer task will be provided here as they are available. I will in turn mark this as Idea Logged for now; feel welcome to reply here with any related inquiries.

Thanks,

Eric
