Upgrade yellowfin on AWS instance

Mark Boon shared this question 4 years ago

I am trying to update our AWS instance to the latest version. I am getting a number of errors.

1. 8.0.5 upgrade does not support my version

2. 7.4 upgrade does run but generates errors in the attached screen grab.

Can you help, please?

Hi Mark,

Thank you for reaching out to us. Which version of Yellowfin are you currently on? If you are on 7.2, please note that you will need to be on Yellowfin 7.2.18 - build 20180711 before you can proceed to any higher version. To get through to 8.0.5 you may need to go to 7.3 first as well.

Your Yellowfin version and build number can be found by appending /info.jsp to your Yellowfin URL (eg http://localhost:8080/info.jsp). Please let me know how this goes and if I can provide any further assistance.

Cheers,

Neal

Hi Mark,

Hope you are well. I wanted to touch base and see how you have been going with your upgrade? Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi Neal,

I am sitting on a 7.4 version of yellowfin now, thank you.

The yellowfin-8.0.5-20200225-update. Jar is telling me that it is a an incompatible major minor update.

Where do I head next!

Thanks

Hi Mark,

At least we have some progress. Looking at this error I'd say this is related to the older version of Tomcat which would have been bundled with previous Yellowfin installs that is no longer supported.

We have two different paths forward.

  1. Upgrade to the latest 7.4.13 (which shares a similar base to 8.0.5)
  2. You will need to manually upgrade Tomcat, then look to proceed with the upgrade to 8.0.5

If you wish to proceed with the upgrade to 8.0.5, this article will guide you to the Tomcat upgrade process (I would suggest Tomcat 8). Once this is complete the rest of the upgrade should hopefully move smoothly.

Please keep me updated with your progess.

Hi Neal,

Thanks for that!

I am running 7.4.13 and it is not upgrading, so does that mean the Tomcat upgrade path is my only choice?

Cheers

Hi Mark,

I believe it is, yes. Can you please check the version of Tomcat? If you look in the Yellowfin install dir and go to /appserver/bin and run version.sh this should tell you which version you are on?

Hi Neal,

Not strictly Yellowfin, but I can not delete or change the /bin folder as I am logged in as ubuntu and do not have the necessary permissions.

Tried chmod and permission change in filezilla to no avail!

Hi Mark,

Apologies for the late response. I can't help much with the permissions issue, unless you can su to root to change the folder permissions, though it does seem odd that you can't delete it. Based on the tomcat version, yes I would say an upgrade to 8 or 9 would definitely be the plan.

Please let me know how it goes and we'll pick this up if you run into further issues.

Cheers,

Neal

Hi Neal,

I think I am running tomcat 8 now !

However yellowfin or tomcat is knocking back the connection from the web so I can not access yellowfin and the update still is saying that 7.4 to 8 or even 9 is a version change to far!

Any ideas?

Mark

Hi Mark,

Okay, so you have upgraded Tomcat and started the service. From here I would check the logs under Yellowfin72/appserver/logs there should be a yellowfin.log file and a catalina.out file that should give us an idea of what is happening.

Hi Mark,

Yes I would suggest we do need to upgrade this as well. I would be going for the x64 package as it will allow you more memory usage (I think the 32-bit caps about 4GB).

Hi Mark,

Hope you're well. Just checking in to see how it's all going? Did you get through the upgrade in the end? Was there anything else I can be helping you with?

Cheers,

Neal
